Hiring for an EP lab that has adopted pulsed field ablation
What EP labs ask for when recruiting permanently after adopting pulsed field ablation, why some searches take longer, and where hiring responsibility sits.
Pulsed field ablation has expanded the range of procedures some electrophysiology labs perform, and programs adopting it often revisit how the lab is staffed. The recruiting question that follows is narrow: what experience does this program require, and how available is it in the market?
This article addresses that hiring question only. Training, competency assessment, workflow design, procedure selection, and staffing levels are decisions for the hospital and its clinical leadership.
What programs commonly ask for
Job definitions vary widely. Some EP labs ask for prior mapping experience with named systems, some ask for device or implant experience, and others prioritize general cath or EP lab background with a plan to train in-house.
Because requirements differ this much, the same job title can describe very different roles. Writing down the required credentials, the equipment in use, the case types, and the call expectation before outreach begins makes screening faster and reduces late withdrawals.
Why some EP searches take longer
Candidates with specific mapping or ablation experience are a smaller pool than the general cath lab market, and many are not applying to postings. Programs in less densely populated regions, or with narrow requirement lists, generally see fewer inbound applications.
Whether a program should widen its requirements, invest in training, or hold out for a narrower profile is a decision the program makes. Each path changes what a search looks like.
Permanent staffing as a preference
Some programs prefer permanent hires over rotating coverage for continuity reasons: familiarity with local workflows and equipment, and less repeated onboarding. That is a staffing preference, not a claim about clinical results.
Hire Caliber Staffing recruits permanent EP roles only. We do not staff locums or travel assignments.
Where responsibility sits
We screen candidates against the requirements an employer provides, including credentials, equipment experience, and case types. Primary-source verification, competency assessment, credentialing, privileging, references, background checks, and the hiring decision remain with the employer.
If you are planning a permanent EP lab hire, describe the role through the client intake form and we will work from that definition.
